Moderator’s Musings

Good Saturday, everyone. I, and I’m sure many others, are very grateful to be able to attend worship via Zoom to hear, see, and dialogue with those who are also online and those who are present in person. I feel reconnected to my church family, and I thank those who have the technical know-how to make this happen.

Last Sunday’s sermon was a presentation called “Unitarian Universalism 101” by Rev. Aaron White from the First Unitarian Church of Dallas.  In this recording, Rev. White gave us a clear picture of Unitarian Universalism – what it is and what it isn’t.

Our Open Pulpit service tomorrow offers us an opportunity to respond to his message, however we are inspired to do so: with comments, questions, readings or poems that have touched us somehow.

If you need a refresher or weren’t able to attend last week, click the link above to view this terrific overview of what we’re all about! In his service, Rev. White asked, “Are you ready to serve?” Let us look forward to tomorrow’s Open Pulpit with this question in mind…ready to share, to listen, to learn, to ponder, and to question!

A Fond Farewell to Rev. Dave!Last Saturday, the members of the UU Church of Houlton and our friends came together for a Dessert Reception honoring Rev. Dave’s retirement after nearly 25 years of service to our community.More than 50 people joined the celebration, which featured music by some of Dave’s favorite local musicians (including Michael Fasulo’s rendition of “Light My Fire” on the pipe organ!), reflections from those gathered, and a small “releasing” ceremony that officially ended Dave’s ministry.

Below, Dave wears a floral garland that signifying our gratitude for all that he has given us and as a blessing of hope for the future. May the circle of our love and the spirit of our community surround you always, Rev. Dave!
