Moderator’s Musings
Happy Spring, everyone!
Our thanks to Mary Blocher for her very meaningful service last Sunday, focused on “The Power of Love.” It was a gift to have Mary leading worship and preaching again, and I know many of us left feeling uplifted — and full of love — after hearing her talk.
We are all looking forward to meeting with Emily Cherry, our UUA Congregational Life Consultant, from 2-4 p.m. today, and we warmly welcome them as worship leader tomorrow morning. Let’s have a full house if we can — there is something truly special about gathering together in person. And if you’re not able to join us at the church, please do join us on Zoom so you can still be part of the morning.
Although I am still a bit “gimpy” because of my hip, I am very much looking forward to being back with you in person. I’ve missed seeing you all and sharing that time together.
Last weekend’s icy weather certainly caused havoc for some of our congregation members and friends. Please keep Joyce Transue, Cyndie McCarthy, and Maria Umbsaar in your thoughts and prayers, and take good care yourselves if you need to be out and about while it’s still slippery underfoot. Spring may technically be here, but winter hasn’t given up yet!
As always, if you know of anyone in our church community who is ill, injured, or could use a little extra support, please let me or a member of the Board know so we can reach out and offer care. Staying connected and looking out for one another is part of what makes this community what it is.
In faith and fellowship,
Dale Holden, Moderator
Welcome, Emily!
As Dale mentioned, this weekend, we welcome Emily Cherry (they/them), a Congregational Life Consultant for the New England Region of the Unitarian Universalist Association, to Houlton. They have been working with the Board in the early stages of our transition and have been an invaluable resource as we navigate our next steps. We felt that it was important for Emily to come spend time with us as a congregation, to get to know us better, and for us to learn more about the UUA’s required process for finding a new minister.
Prior to assuming this role, Emily had several years of congregational lay leadership experience and professional administrative experience, both in the Transitions Office and in the larger Ministries and Faith Development Office at the UUA.
Emily believes in the Holy power of our choice to build community with one another and in our ability to foster collective resilience in a complicated world.
Emily’s looking forward to our meetings and leading service… and welcomes outreach from members of the congregation following her visit, as well.
